DARIAH-DE Hosting of Virtual Machines
The hosting service of the e-Science infrastructure DARIAH-DE provides virtual machines. These virtual machines are particularly suited for the needs of humanities and cultural studies. The hosting of virtual machines at DARIAH-DE is comparable with wellknown commercial cloud services. Here the computing and data service centers associated with DARIAH-DE provide their long lasting experiences.
The provisioning of virtual machines (VMs) in DARIAH-DE comprises:
- Access to VMs with preinstalled and configured operating system
- VMs for testing as well as production services
- High-end resources (computing power, memory, network)
- Basic configuration of the systems (firewall, etc.)
- Integration into the DARIAH-DE monitoring
- Backup of file systems
The underlying infrastructure is provided by one of Germany's leading data and computing centers: Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbh Göttingen (GWDG)

The SSH Open Marketplace is maintained and will be further developed by three European Research Infrastructures - DARIAH, CLARIN and CESSDA - and their national partners. It was developed as part of the "Social Sciences and Humanities Open Cloud" SSHOC project, European Union's Horizon 2020 project call H2020-INFRAEOSC-04-2018, grant agreement #823782.
