Pundit: Semantic web annotation tool
Pundit is a cloud service that allows users to 'take notes' on web documents, like a web page or a PDF file. It consists of a set of components, amongst them the Annotator, a free extension for the Google Chrome browser used by users to create the annotations. Annotations can be highlights of text parts or comments, applied either on a selection of the text or on the whole document. It is also possible to create annotations to tag a selected text or an entire web page. Pundit supports semantic annotations, real RDF triples (subject - predicate -> object) to specify formal, structured and reusable statements associated to the annotated content.
Other notable features of Pundit are:
- Notebooks to collect annotations, which can be public, private and (soon) sharable with other users
- Pundit WebApp to see and manage in a centralized place all the annotations done 'on the web'
- FeedThePundit proxy service, to use Pundit when the Chrome extension is not available and also from mobile browsers
- APIs to develop custom integration scenarios.
Since November 2022 Pundit is a service of the EOSC marketplace.
The SSH Open Marketplace is maintained and will be further developed by three European Research Infrastructures - DARIAH, CLARIN and CESSDA - and their national partners. It was developed as part of the "Social Sciences and Humanities Open Cloud" SSHOC project, European Union's Horizon 2020 project call H2020-INFRAEOSC-04-2018, grant agreement #823782.
