 Determine the specific needs and scope of your application profile. Understand the domain or subject area you're working with and identify the key concepts, relationships, and properties that are relevant to your application. Understand the domains involved, or consult relevant experts.

Identify the SKOS vocabularies eg. use the BARTOC registry that contain relevant concepts and terms for your application. Evaluate these vocabularies to understand their structure, hierarchies, relationships, and properties. Determine which elements from these vocabularies are useful for your application profile.

Identify overlapping or similar concepts across the different SKOS vocabularies. Look for concepts that represent similar ideas or terms but might have different labels or hierarchies. This step is crucial for aligning and merging the vocabularies.

Create mappings between the overlapping concepts to establish semantic relationships between them. Use SKOS properties like "skos:exactMatch," "skos:closeMatch," or "skos:relatedMatch" to indicate the relationships between the concepts in different vocabularies. And skos:broaderConcept, skos:narrowerConcept [check this]


Address any conflicts or inconsistencies that arise during the earlier steps. For example, if there are conflicting labels or hierarchies, you might need to decide on a preferred label or create a new hierarchy that combines the different structures.


Customize the result by adding or modifying elements to meet your application's specific needs. This may involve creating new concepts, defining additional properties, or adding annotations explaining certain decisions to enhance the vocabulary's usability.


Document the resulting application profile, providing clear definitions, examples, and guidelines for using the vocabulary. Include information about the sources of the vocabularies used, mappings established, and any modifications made during the creation process. Add metadata for the application profile for adequate archiving,  findability, and citation.

Publish and share your application profile with relevant stakeholders and the wider community. Make the profile available in a machine-readable format, such as RDF/XML, Turtle, or JSON-LD, so that it can be easily consumed by applications and other users.
